The Edge of Everything (Negative Review)

*DNF At This Point in Time.*

Hello! My name is Ally and I’m back again for another review! This time it’s a rant, and I’ll be talking about a book that I really did not like: The Edge of Everything! But, before we begin, I’d like to just say that even though I did not like it, you may have a different opinion and that’s okay!

Now to the review!

General Information:

  • Pages: 368
  • Genre: Fantasy
  • Series: (Untitled)
  • Author: Jeff Giles
  • Publisher: Bloomsbury
  • Source: Library
  • ISBN: Unknown
  • Date Published: 31st January 2017
  • Format: Paperback/Hardcover
  • Rating: Two stars- 33%
  • Quote From Reviewer: “A good plot, however, the overall book needed to be developed further.”

I did like some aspects of the book, especially the dialogue and the gorgeous cover, but otherwise… There were also a lot of problems in this book. The beginning takes place on a mountain just as a blizzard is beginning to roll through. Zoe, our protagonist, is desperately hunting through the snow for her brother and two dogs. (Points for suspense) Then, as her, the dogs and her brother find safety, they are attacked by a man who picks up both dogs and tries to drown them. Whilst Zoe sings songs to her little brother. I think at this point, I was really asking myself what the hell was wrong with the protagonist that she would just sit and watch a strange man drown her two dogs. Yes, he may have been stronger than her, but DO SOMETHING! Swing a chair for god’s sake! A psycho man is trying to murder your dogs in a freezing lake!

And don’t even get me started on X. X is a magical bounty hunter from hell who appears to save the dogs and drown the guy who was trying to kill them. You think that’s weird? Well, have I got news for you! After saving the dogs, he pulls his shirt off and pretty much turns into a projector. Literally. He plays all of Stan’s (the guy who is trying to drown the dogs) misdoings on his back and then proceeds to murder him. Confused? I was too. Although, this did make me laugh, as ridiculous as it was:

“X spread his arms wide. His shoulder blades flashed in the darkness and his back became broader still.

Zoe couldn’t help it. She took a photo to put on Instagram later.”

I will let you form your own opinions about that quote. I do wonder what the caption for that photo was though… Probably something along the lines of:

“Check out this super hot dude’s abs! Ignore my dogs being drowned in the background- I’m sure they can swim in freezing cold water! #lol #murder is awesome #he’s a human projector.”

My next problem (it’s going to be a long post, ladies and gentlemen) was this: In fact, I don’t even know what to make of this little quote.

“The man didn’t say a word. He certainly didn’t apologise. He just stood there, his eyes sliding over Zoe’s body and leaving slime trails like snails. Men had looked at her like that ever since she was 12. When she first talked to her mother about it, her mum had said,

“Zoe, sit down for a second. It’s time I taught you the meaning of the phrase ‘horrible low life perv.”

Pardon me, but what now? Men had looked at her like that every since she was twelve? Ahem. *sips hot chocolate whilst peering over the rim of the cup with scepticism.*

To be honest, I don’t even know where to begin. Zoe’s state of mind worries me. A lot. She leaves her brother playing outside in the snow just because she doesn;t have time for him. Her little brother.  I’m sorry, but I myself have a little sister and whilst we certainly have our differences, I would not leave her outside if I knew that a blizzard was coming. First of all, my mother would probably kill me first if I did, and secondly, I would most likely feel bad. So I didn’t find that scenario very realistic. And that’s completely ignoring the fact that she calls him a ‘spack’ because he has ADHD.

(Google tells me that “spack’ is a slang meaning mentally deficient, clumsy or foolish. Either way, it doesn’t sit very well with me.)

I really wanted to like this book. It had so much promise, but it just didn’t work out for me. At this stage, I don’t think I’ll finish it.

Have you guys read The Edge of Everything yet? If so, what did you think? Personally, I’m going to rate this two stars, but you may disagree! Tell me below in the comments! Once again, this is only my opinion and if you disagree, that’s okay too!

TOWER OF DAWN (Sarah J. Maas)

Anyway, we haven’t posted, so a) letting all of you know that ToD cover reveal comes out tomorrow and b) the blurb of this (surely) absolutely amazing SJM book!

Blurb: (GoodReads) Chaol Westfall has always defined himself by his unwavering loyalty, his strength, and his position as the Captain of the Guard. But all of that has changed since the glass castle shattered, since his men were slaughtered, since the King of Adarlan spared him from a killing blow, but left his body broken.

His only shot at recovery lies with the legendary healers of the Torre Cesme in Antica—the stronghold of the southern continent’s mighty empire. And with war looming over Dorian and Aelin back home, their survival might lie with Chaol and Nesryn convincing its rulers to ally with them.

But what they discover in Antica will change them both—and be more vital to saving Erilea than they could have imagined.

Sorry, English essaying.

Anyway, we’ll post again soon, hopefully!

Hello! My name is Ally and today I’m back with another movie review! *action movie sound effects*

Today I’ll be reviewing…. WONDER WOMAN! Holy heck was this movie amazing! if you came here to see some negative hate happening, then I am so sorry, because you are one day early. Monday is tomorrow, guys.

But in all seriousness, this movie was so good from the costumes, to the set, and even the music! All of it. Amazing!

This review will not be spoilery, so go ahead and grab yourselves some popcorn and take a sit for another great post from the Immortal Readers! Not that I’m biased or anything… *hides the infinity symbol on my t-shirt* No….. not biased at all…

On an island where men are not only completely useless but also do not exist, comes Diana, Princess of the AMAZONS! Together, these band of women train, readying themselves for a coming war. Then one sunny, perfect day, an aircraft from World War One falls from the sky and crashes off the coast of the island. With it, comes the truth that the war they had been preparing for may be fast approaching and upon them far sooner than they had imagined. Together, Diana and the pilot of the aircraft set off to stop the war and finish it once and for all.

If that doesn’t spark your interest, how about this?

  • Diana (Wonder Woman) is played by an Israeli actress.
  • It was directed by a female named Patty Jenkins.
  • It has blown out the box office, breaking dozens of records.
  • It’s the first real movie with a female superhero to have ever made such a big impact.
  • It has awesome fighting scenes, hot guy(s) and amazing music!

Literally, the only thing I really can say is that everyone should watch Wonder Woman. It’s one of those movies you will remember for a long time after. It not only lives up to the incredibly high hype, but it blows past it, effectively shattering the glass ceiling in the film industry. Wonder Woman honestly made me so proud to be a female and I left the cinema feeling like I too could stab a few people in the throat. Okay, maybe not that last one, but you get the point.

In conclusion, please go see Wonder Woman and tell me what you think! If I don’t discuss it with someone, I might actually combust… so… there is your motivation! Overall, I award WONDER WOMAN a steady five stars and I would see it again. And again. And again! Thanks for reading guys and I’ll see you again soon with another post!

#TBR Problems

Hello! It’s Laurena here! Remember when I used to post like, three times a week? Yeah… Sorry! It ain’t happening anytime soon! But, you know, here’s a post to pull you over the void that is our posting dates!

So, on an arbitrary note, we will be at the Sydney’s Writers Festival, so if any of you are going to the YA festival day and you randomly see three (or more, as we may be popular) girls with infinity badges/ necklaces/ anything, approach and say hi! We would love to meet you.

But. The TBR pile. Remember that post, That Pesky TBR Pile Dominating The Room (boy, that title was long)? I wrote that. And it was advice. And it may have helped some of you, but it did not help me. Anything but, in fact. And so, a long, long, long list of all the books I have a) not finished or b) not started. (It is also my mission to read and review all of these books, so, *shrugs*)

Anyway. I have roughly 104 TBR books on my bookshelf. So 104 books on this bookshelf are TBR.

I really have to stop buying!!

(Bookshelf photo I promised you guys ages ago!)

Do you guys have any tips? It would be lovely to write a blog post with all the comments, so it can a sort of reference guide in the future.

Where To Find Us Online!

Hello, everyone! It is Ally again with another post! So today, I’d thought it would be nice to show you guys where you can find us online- Instagram, Gmail and etc. We love chatting with all of you and so this might help us communicate a little better!

Let’s get started!

Hi! This is where all three of us hang and write our collective posts. This part is kinda irrelevant though, as you are already here 🙂

Whilst our WordPress account is monitored and looked at by all three of us, I (Ally) tend to run our Instagram. This is because both Melia and Laurena don’t have the app and so I post the pictures and run that aspect of our social media! 😀

On Goodreads, we all have an account and I’ll link them below.

Ally’s Goodreads

Laurena’s Goodreads

Melia’s Goodreads

Books I Really Want To Read: Part Two

Hey everyone! It’s Melia here with another post (finally).

I was looking through some old posts (Hopefully, we aren’t as cringey anymore. We probably are…) and I was inspired to write another “books I really want to read” post because there are a lot of them. I’ve narrowed this list down to 5 books so this post wont go on forever.

You can find part one here.

Lets begin!
