Hello, Immortals! It’s Ally here today with another review! Before I get started, though, I would personally like to thank the wonderful team at Pantera Press for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this amazing book! Not to mention Lynette Noni (The author of Akarnae, Raelia and Draekora) herself, who is the nicest person when it comes to crazed fan comments! I’m so excited to meet her and all the other book bloggers at the launch for Draekora, which will be held on the 1st of April! Details can be found here:

Hope to see you guys there!

So, with all that excitement aside, let’s get to reviewing! Ah, who am I kidding? The review will probably be just as exciting, or just as illegible… sorry!

*Please note:

All thoughts, feels and opinions are my own.

*Please note #2:

Mild Spoilers Ahead for books 1 and 2! I tried my very best to keep this as spoiler-free as possible, but in some cases, it just wasn’t possible.

My Thoughts:

The Medoran Chronicles. Full of wonder, action, love and betrayal. So, you would expect the third book to be good. But it wasn’t. It was better! (I got you there, didn’t I!) Draekora blew me away. Whilst Akarnae was a magical, unique tale, Draekora was so, so much more. In fact, the only reason I wasn’t able to give it five stars was purely based on the fact that I would’ve liked more of all the characters and just more in general! Dragons? Tick. Sass? Tick. Humour? Tick. Magic Carpets? Technically the Valispath counts… so tick! I laughed, I cried (Mascara. Everywhere.) and I gasped. All of my notes I took were scrawled because I was so desperate to finish. It was so great to read a good book again- especially after the disaster that was ‘the Edge of Everything’ (negative and frustrated review to follow). I actually found a few pictures of me whilst reading….

I know what you’re thinking- “Hey Ally, when did you cut your hair? It looks fabulous!” Why thank you. Or possibly “Those glasses really suit you!” You are too kind!

Well, it was either that or gross happy tears for the characters, but you get the idea. What I loved the most about this book, however, was the world building. We get to see some much more of Medora and the backstory behind (blank) and the potential reason why he has so much hatred for (blank). We get to see so much character development between all of the characters, but there was still no Kaiden! I myself am a massive shipper of the ship that is… shippable (these spoilers are really making me sweat) and to say that I was disappointed that he didn’t appear at all in this book is an understatement. Don’t get me wrong, he is certainly mentioned, and we have so many new characters introduced that It was hard to feel any negative feelings at all, but I would love to see more of him in book four. No scrap that, I have to see more of him in book four!

In conclusion, Draekora is… incredible. I was so close to giving It five stars if only I had been able to see more of my favourite characters. Not to mention the Dragons! Overall, I would rate this book four stars with an 87% and would highly recommend! If you haven’t read the series, I would definitely encourage you to! Draekora By Lynette Noni comes out on April 1st!

Here is my review of the first book in the series!

What do you want to read on TIR?

In a minor bout of self-consciousness, we created a survey to find out what you want to read on our blog. I think this is really important because there is no point of having a blog if no one reads it and because if you want to read something, we won’t waste time blogging something that you won’t read.

So what we write is up to you. Please answer honestly, and we will try to cater to allow you to read what you would like to read.

What would you like to read on TIR?

SHERLOCK!!!!! (Cue Melia rolling her eyes because she hasn’t seen Sherlock and has had to deal with Laurena and Ally’s fangirling for far too long because hey! it has been happening for ages.)

A thousand-story tower stretching into the sky. A glittering vision of the future where anything is possible—if you want it enough.

A hundred years in the future, New York is a city of innovation and dreams. Everyone there wants something…and everyone has something to lose.

LEDA COLE’s flawless exterior belies a secret addiction—to a drug she never should have tried and a boy she never should have touched.

ERIS DODD-RADSON’s beautiful, carefree life falls to pieces when a heartbreaking betrayal tears her family apart.

RYLIN MYERS’s job on one of the highest floors sweeps her into a world—and a romance—she never imagined…but will this new life cost Rylin her old one?

WATT BAKRADI is a tech genius with a secret: he knows everything about everyone. But when he’s hired to spy for an upper-floor girl, he finds himself caught up in a complicated web of lies.

And living above everyone else on the thousandth floor is AVERY FULLER, the girl genetically designed to be perfect. The girl who seems to have it all—yet is tormented by the one thing she can never have.

Amid breathtaking advancement and high-tech luxury, five teenagers struggle to find their place at the top of the world. But when you’re this high up, there’s nowhere to go but down….

My thoughts:

This book was so fantastic. Whatever random words I am typing barely begin to describe how much I loved this book. The Thousandth Floor is definitely one of my favourites of 2016. It was so unique and just *sighs*.

adored the set up of the tower and all of the different technology that must have been thoroughly planned out. Even though this book is set 101 years in the future, it seemed so realistic. The characters were really well thought out and had personalities that I hadn’t seen in too many characters from other books.

The synopsis had me hooked from when I first read it. I couldn’t not go out and buy it. The cover is gorgeous too and, let’s be honest, we all judge books by their covers sometimes.

Just look at it! Perfection…

Yeah, there was a bit of drama here and there but it was made up for by the amazing world building and characters so that didn’t affect the rating very much at all.

Overall, I loved this book so much and can’t wait for the next book in the series. (The title was recently released on EpicReads!!).

UH oh…. I have a feeling this post is going to be interesting! Hello Immortals, its Ally here with more bookish fun! So, today I’ll be doing Rip it or Ship it! If you don’t know how this game works, basically I cut up a bunch of character names and threw them into a hat. Each round, I will pick two names out of the hat and decide whether to SHIP IT! or RIP-IT. Make sure to comment below and tell me which was your favourite ship! Let’s begin!

And we have…..

Will Herondale and Clary.

First of all, no. Second of all, absolutely not.

Ship name: Clall? Wiry? I’m working on it.

And we have…OMG!

President Snow and…. Sherlock.

Oh geez- I want to ship them so bad, but at the same time, NEVER, EVER.

Ship name: Snowlock. Awesome ship name, terrible couple.

And we have…

Alex and Alec.

Hmmmmm…. I honestly can’t decide! If you don’t know, Alex is from the Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni (The third book is coming out in April!!!) and Alec is from the Mortal Instruments. I…. I ship it. I have no idea what the ship name will be though…

Ship name: UNDECIDED

And we have….

Aelin and Maven.

No. Sorry. That’s not happening if you’ve read Red Queen. Aelin is one of my bookish best friends, but Maven … he will burn in the fiery dark depths of hell. Sorry Aelin, but you can do better than him.

Ship name: Malin.

STATUS: So brutally ripped, one-half ended up on pluto which is as lonely as Maven will be until he dies. Then he’ll just be dead.

And we have…

Dumbledore and Dimitri.

I ship it! Dumbledore would be telling Dimitri off for running into a fight and Dimitri would be teasing him that he wasn’t a risk taker. *Realises that isn’t really an insult…*Anyway, I ship it.

Ship name: Dumbletri.

And now we have come to the last round….

And we have…

Mackenzie and Rowan.

*Sighs* Why in all the nine circles of hell did I ever decide to play this game? Mackenzie is from The Intuitives (Coming out in June!) and Rowan is from Throne of Glass. I’m going to ship it! Mackenzie loves to fight and Rowan is an assassin (of sorts) so I would say it would work! I mean, sure, Mackenzie isn’t immortal or anything, but I reckon they would make a great couple!

Ship name: Rowenzie.

And there we have it, ladies and gentleman- The Rip it or Ship it tag/game! I hope you enjoyed reading this post (I certainly had a lot of fun!), and I’ll see you next time!

Story Time! (Stalking Authors)

Hellloo! This is Laurena with a new post! (What took you so long?)

This initiative is dedicated to Tara, who probably became a die-hard fan of our blog… most likely because she recommended Fullmetal Alchemist to me and I loved it… But her advice and help are invaluable right now and I don’t know what I would be doing if she wasn’t spamming my phone with texts…

If not for her, I would be reading FMA right now… (Wait…)

But, funny stories

Do you guys remember how obsessed I am with Sarah J. Maas? Well, I was at a restaurant that shall not be named, happily eating my really spicy tacos that weren’t that spicy in the description, and someone walked in.

She was a blonde lady of medium height, who looked far too much like the lady in this photo:

sarah j mass

Sooooo. Let’s play a game! It’s called what did Laurena do next?

Round one!

Did she…

  1. Ignore her
  2. Scream and run up to her
  3. Start breathing heavily and pulled out Heir of Fire which was in her bag…
  4. Or choke on the tacos.

And answer three is correct!

But I did do 2-4 at some point…

But I pulled out HoF and discovered that it didn’t have a photo of SJM in it so I pulled out my phone and enlisted my mum and grandma to start researching Sarah J. Maas’ face.

And when we could find any outstanding differences, we started looking up Josh. (Sarah’s husband) The male next to her was similar but not close enough to be SJM’s husband but it could’ve been her editor or her father (??) or her brother or some who may have been having dinner in Australia… (I don’t even know anymore!)

So, mum did what I was too cowardly to do, (and what we should have done in the first place as I suspect that walking until we were directly in front of the table that SJM (the doppelganger) was sitting at, pretending to admire the view that was blocked by a wall! The patrons must have been getting suspicious…) but my mother walked up to their table and asked if she was SJM while I hid under a table and texted Claudia about my plight.

It wasn’t Sarah, but she was American, from America and HER NAME WAS SARAH! (Laurena, Sarah is a common name. Don’t get ahead of yourself and start predicting voodoo… Shut up brain!)

However, the highlight of my night was dad saying that if she was SJM, he would drive the 40 minutes back home and grab all of my SJM books… so she could sign them while I bowed at her feet!

And then I got my response from Claudia:

Oh my god. That is actually hilarious. 😂

Stalkerish Tale #2!

Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. Co-authors of Illuminae.

Admittedly, this story isn’t as great, but it still shows my creepy stalker skills!

We wanted to go on holiday to escape the heat wave that was NSW… so mum suggested Melbourne!

And who lives in Melbourne you may ask. THE ONE AND ONLY… THE ULTIMATE WRITING TEAM… JAY KRISTOFF AND AMIE KAUFMAN! (See above for pictures)

And judging by what happened in the last tale, what do you think I did?

No, Ally, I didn’t go and learn to hack! I would never do that…

I just went to pack.

And look up flight tickets.

And pull open Illuminae to stare at Amie and Jay until I think the holes that I bore into the picture made a hole appear on both their foreheads…

And fangirl.

And reread.

And… then we didn’t go.

My holiday was ruined.

No Sarah J. Maas. No Amie Kaufman. No Jay Kristoff.

Signing off in tears due to the fact I just had to resee (??) those memories,

(Now going by La because Laurena is so long…)

Book Club: Fangirl Review

Hello, Immortals! It’s Ally here (and other… people) with our first group post ever! My chosen colour for these kinda posts is red! Yay! Firre! Pew pew! As this is a new initiative, we would greatly appreciate all feedback that would help us make these monthly chats better!

Haha, calm down, Ally. Hello, and this is Melia! I  will be writing in purple for our group posts. Every month, we will be choosing a book to read and review together for the (ImmortalReads Club?) (We can change this name!). At the end of each book club post, we will announce the next month’s book which you can read along with us and join the discussion in the comments! YAYYYYYYYY!!!! 🙂

Hi! This is Laurena, and my colour is a tealy blue (green? Aqua?) Dunno, but I think it’s pretty. Ally and Melia said it all. Yep! 🙂 But I get to start the actual discussion! Fangirl! Woo! Cather and Wren and Levi… Levi. Levi, Levi, Levi!

Alright! Time for discussion!! I’ll kick the critique off by saying I loved reading Fangirl. The romance, plot and witty banter was perfectly balanced. However, (*organ sounds*) I was not a huge fan of Cather’s voice as a protoganist. Her view on life was stubborn and so frustrating to the point where I almost gave up (almost) but then I met Levi. He is, in long form, (and I don’t say this often) one of the most well developed male characters I have ever seen. I mean, look at this angel!

“That’s not the point,” he said. “What kind of creep would I be if I let my girl carry something heavy while I walked along, swinging my arms?”

Your girl? “The kind that respects my wishes,” she said. “And my strength, and my… arms.”

Levi grinned some more. Because he wasn’t taking her seriously. “I have a lot of respect for your arms. I like how they’re attached to the rest of you.”

Rainbow Rowell, Fangirl

I decree it to be scientifically proven that Levi is an angel, and should therefore be praised. Melia, any thoughts?

I really liked Cath at the beginning of the novel and I related to her a lot, but then, like Ally said she became too stubborn and developed an irritating manner. That would have brought down my rating further if it wasn’t for Levi. Levi was just one of those characters that win you over as soon as you meet them. For me, that doesn’t happen often. Never mind, it happens more than I like to admit. I probably get attached too easily. And a lot of the time that doesn’t end well for me. Anyway, what did you think about the characters, Laurena?

Cather… I have mixed feeling about her. At the beginning, she was awesome and strong and then… she becomes weak and she gives up far too easily. But I think she redeemed herself eventually.

I loved how Fangirl was able to address mental illness without making it the center of attention at all times. While mental illness can sometimes occupy your whole life until you recover or learn to deal with it, it’s not always like that. Sometimes, it’s completely unnoticeable next to everyone around you or, even, yourself. This book didn’t turn the mental illness aspect into a massive drama which is one of the main things that I loved about Fangirl.

YESSS!!! I completely forgot about that! At the same time, I really liked the way she slowly worked through her social anxiety and how Levi helped her through that, but didn’t cure her immediately. In so many books (more than I am bothered to count :D), the boyfriend magically cures the protagonist’s aliment.

Yeah, that gets annoying and it is not how it happens in real life.

Exactly! Whereas in Fangirl, it is constantly portrayed as a daily struggle for Cath.

We really enjoyed reading fangirl and recommend it for 14+ as there is mild sexual content and coarse language.

Join us next month reading The Intuitives which we received kindly from Trash Dogs Media LLC (Seriously, they are AMAZING!).

We hope you will enjoy this new initiative of ours. Please let us know in the comments what you think and if there are any issues with this/ suggestions.
